Railway Track Monitoring

The Track Facility Monitoring Device is located under the floor of the passenger train and frequent acquisition of the measured data becomes possible. We provide data processing, maintenance of the onboard equipment, support for introduction and use of the system, data analysis and consultation of the Railway Track Monitoring System.

* The Railway Track Monitoring System was awarded many prizes such as the 2018 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, the 21st Country-ology and Engineering Development Award (most valuable award) by the Japan Institute of Country-ology and Engineering, the 3rd Infrastructure Maintenance Award (Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award), and the 8th Monozukuri Nippon Grand Award (Prime Minister Award) for its full usability.
Track Facility Monitoring Device
Two detecting systems called the Track Irregularity Monitoring Device and Track Component Monitoring Device are placed on the passenger train and these are collectively called the railway Track Facility Monitoring Device.

Track Irregularity Monitoring Device
The devices to collect track irregularity data indicating rail deflection, etc.
Track Component Monitoring Device
The devices to collect image data showing the condition of the components used for the sleepers and the rail fastening system.

Data Processing Section
Track irregularity data processing
The track irregularity data are collected in every operation and irregularities can be monitored in real time. The best irregularity data measured can be selected for analysis.

Track material data processing
Record the images of the rails, sleepers, fastening system, and joints and uniform pass/fail judgment is made.

Railway Track Monitoring System (RAMOS)
The system to control the railway track monitoring. The system provides the data for track irregularities and components' condition and assists in the formulation of the track maintenance plan.

Track Maintenance Support Application
The application supports planning of the optimum maintenance timing by forecasting deterioration of tracks based on the measurement data collected every day.

Device Management Section
The section performs remote monitoring, investigation of failures, periodic inspection, and operation management of the Railway Track Monitoring System. It is important to repair the railway track system at the optimum timing by detecting any symptoms in advance.

Periodic inspection of the devices
Parts deteriorated by everyday operation are replaced, and overhauled after 4 years of operation, and annual inspections are conducted for operation checks.

Remote monitoring of the devices
Remote monitoring of theTrack Facility Monitoring Device is performed by the Monitoring Center. Troubleshooting of a failure of the devices is performed by remote access to such devices and confirmation whether the system measures the track condition properly is carried out.

CBM Promotion Section
The section provides the support to make the data collected by the Track Facility Monitoring Device suitable for use by the field maintenance workforce. Specifically, the division provides consultation to the field maintenance organization and R&D organization of the railway operators, and also is independently engaged in the development of an AI tool. The division also supports the introduction of the Railway Track Monitoring System by public and private railway operators according to the needs specific to individual railway operator.
